Ms. TANG Xinxin is a renowned opera director with extensive experiences in both east and west. Graduated from Die Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and worked many years as a resident director at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing since its opening in 2008, she represents the best and the most accomplished young generation of artists in China.
Her years in the NCPA Beijing saw the first professional Chinese productions of western opera at high international level. There she worked as assistant director to Francesca Zambello, Hugo DeAna, Giancarlo del Monaco. Her opera projects in the NCPA include Tosca, Turandot, L’elisir d’amore, Il trovatore, Nabucco, Un Ballo in Maschera, Otello, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Cenerentola, L’italiana in Algeria, Der Fliegende Holländer, Lohengrin, Der Rosenkavalier, Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Carmen as well as several Chinese new creations.
After moving to Singapore in 2015, Xinxin directed Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, Der Schauspieldirektor and die Fledermaus for the Lyric Opera, The Telephone and La Bohème for Musician Initiative, L’inganno Felice at Lee Foundation Theatre and her Don Pasquale at the Arts Place Singapore was nominated by the Singapore media as one of the best classical music events of 2019.
In 2023, Xinxin made her American debut directing Turandot and Bluebeard Castle at Opera Southwest. Her most recent productions include Singapore premiere of das Rheingold in Esplanade and Turandot in Opera Delaware.
Born in a family of musicians, Xinxin studied several music instruments at very young age. Her music experiences in opera developed significantly through cooperations with great musicians and singers like Lorin Maazel, Daniel Oren, Placido Domingo, Greer Grimsley, Francesco Meli and Stefan Vinke among others.
